STC International and Stellenbosch University recently cooperated in the establishment of the Maritime Port Transport & Logistics Academy (MPTLA) in South Africa, with the support of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
Purpose of the MPTLA is to provide short courses, management development programmes, technical assistance and research in the maritime, port, transport and logistics sector in South Africa.
As part of this cooperation, two facilitators of STC International provided a short course about port development & regionalization to 26 delegates with management positions in the above mentioned sectors. The focus of this course is on the process of the development of a port to facilitate in transportation (through different transport modes and activities) to the hinterland of that port. When considering port regionalization, the components of international trade, transport chains and the physical flow of cargo play a vital role in this process.
The course was received with critical acclaim.
